New Haven Commercial Properties Change Hands

178-chapelOne business soon will be demolished, while another is expanding to a vacant warehouse.

The City Plan Commission this week approved demolition of Simkins Industries, a former paper manufacturing facility at 259 East St. that was built in the early 1900s and went out of business in August 2006.

In Fair Haven, the New Haven Awning Company, a city staple for 78 years, will expand and move from 281 Chapel St. to the former Lynn Ladder site at 178 Chapel St. The company also will purchase an adjacent vacant lot for parking and loading purposes.
