A new hotel is being considered in downtown New Haven at 205 Church St. This building has been subject to development rumors for years now. First it was turning it into residential and now a hotel. I am not sure if this is a great location in the city for a hotel but if it does get converted it will certainly push our already low office vacancy rate down to a historic level in a recession.
Article from New Haven Register:
NEW HAVEN — Now encased in scaffolding, the iconic 13-story office building at the corner of Church and Elm streets is being studied for conversion to a high-end hotel.
Monthly tenants in the high-rise at 205 Church St. were recently told they have to move, although the ground-floor tenant, Wachovia Bank, has a long-term lease.
Hampshire Hotels and Resorts of New York City, owner of the building, is putting between $2 million and $3 million into basic maintenance at the 1927-28 structure, which local officials said has been neglected for decades.
